Not all required training for sea cadets can be accomplished at the local headquarters.  The training is supplemented by attendance at Cadet Summer Training Centres (CSTC).  Cadets in Ontario usually attend HMCS Ontario, which is in Kingston ON located at Royal Military College.  Some cadets will have the opportunity to attend HMCS Acadia in Nova Scotia or HMCS Quadra in British Columbia as well as opportunities to attend other specialized training at Connaught or Blackdown CTC with cadets from Air & Army.  While on course each successful Cadet is paid a training bonus of $60.00 per week.

Younger cadets 12 or 13, in their first year of cadets may attend General Training. GT will give each Cadet a taste of the four trade groups, seamanship, sail, drill & ceremonial (D&C) and music.  The CSTC Program focuses on providing instructional opportunities to develop advanced knowledge and skills in specialized activities and to develop instructors / leaders for these specialized activities. They will select a Trade and start at the Basic level which lasts three weeks and then progress through the Intermediate and Advanced levels in order to refine their skills, each of which is six weeks long. At the end of their advanced training the cadet will have been trained in the trade of their choice for a total of fifteen weeks.
